Arsenal 2 – 0 Hull City [Premier League] Highlights 2016/17

The Gunners scraped to victory over the struggling Tigers, though the Chilean attacker benefited from the ball hitting his arm and going in

Arsenal managed to restore their form on Saturday when they beat Hull City 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium. However, the win was not without its controversy.

Having lost their last two Premier League encounters, the Gunners were able to ensure they avoided a further slip up with a win over the struggling Tigers.

Alexis Sanchez opened the scoring in the 34th minute after Eldin Jakupovic’s parry saw it hit his arm and go in.

The Gunners benefited from another handball late on, this time Sam Clucas was sent off after blocking a header on the line, with Sanchez stepping up to convert.

Breaking!!! Zlatan Ibrahimovic Sets New Premier League Record

Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has set a new Premier League record, becoming the oldest player to reach 15 goals in a single season.

The former Sweden international joined Manchester United from PSG in the summer, and has made an instant impact at Old Trafford, netting 15 goals in 24 appearances for Jose Mourinho’s side.

On Sunday, he scored United’s second against Leicester City, taking him to 15 goals at 35 years and 125 days old.

Ibrahimovic swept home from inside the area after good work from Antonio Valencia found him in the area, putting the ball through the legs of Wes Morgan and into the Foxes net.

The former Barcelona man also made Premier League history earlier in the season, netting the competition’s 25,000th goal with his strike against Swansea.

Ibrahimovic now as at least 15 league goals in his last six seasons, stretching back to his time at AC Milan.

Since 2006 he has only failed to reach that landmark once, and at 35 years old he shows no sign of stopping.

Counting all competitions, the forward has also now scored 20 goals in 10 consecutive seasons. Way back in 2006-07 when he was with Inter Milan, he fell short of that target, but still scored 15 times.

In addition to those, Ibrahimovic has reached 15 Premier League goals for United in the fourth fastest number of games (23), following Ruud van Nistelrooy (19), Dwight Yorke (20) and Robin van Persie (21).

Hull City 2 – 0 Liverpool [Premier League] Highlights 2016/17 | DOWNLOAD VIDEO

Jurgen Klopp’s 2017 went from bad to worse as Liverpool’s 2-0 loss at Hull City was secured by a goal from Everton loanee Oumar Niasse.

The Reds have endured a miserable recent run and their FA Cup victory over fourth-tier Plymouth Argyle remains their only win this year.

Even the return of the influential Sadio Mane to the starting line-up failed to inspire a revival, with Simon Mignolet again at fault for debutant Alfred N’Diaye’s opener on the stroke of half-time.

The visitors, who did not register a shot on target in the first half, carried a greater threat after the interval, but saw Philippe Coutinho squander the best of their chances.

Having recorded a 5-1 win over Hull in September, the contrast in the fortunes of Klopp’s side then and now was underlined by Niasse’s 84th-minute goal – his first in the Premier League.

For the Tigers, revitalised under Marco Silva, a fourth consecutive home win in all competitions has breathed new life into their flourishing survival bid.

Silva made five changes from the battling 0-0 draw against Manchester United, with Kamil Grosicki and Villarreal loanee N’Diaye coming in for maiden outings.

The Portuguese had one alteration forced upon him as Michael Dawson limped out of the warm-up, with Andrea Ranocchia handed a full Premier League debut.

Mane – so often Liverpool’s key creative force – was recalled, having been a substitute for the draw with Chelsea following his return from the Africa Cup of Nations.

Paco Alcacer ended his long wait for a La Liga goal as Barcelona beat Athletic Bilbao 3-0 at Camp Nou on Saturday.

The Spain international marked a rare start with his first top-flight goal in 11 appearances for the champions before Lionel Messi’s free-kick and an Aleix Vidal strike settled matters against Ernesto Valverde’s side.

Barca were fortunate to escape with a point from their last league outing against Real Betis and they were caused plenty of problems early on by a hard-working Athletic side, although Alcacer’s well-taken finish in the 18th minute sapped some of their early confidence.

Arsenal had a glorious chance to level the scoreline wasted by Gabriel before Eden Hazard found the back of the net after a marvellous solo run after the break.

Breaking!!! Cristiano Ronaldo Wins 2016 Ballon d’Or

Breaking!!! Cristiano Ronaldo Wins 2016 Ballon d’Or

The prolific forward has been recognised for firing Real Madrid to Champions League glory before then lifting the European Championship with Portugal

Cristiano Ronaldo has beaten off competition from the likes of Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann to claim his fourth Ballon d’Or.

The prolific Portuguese, who previously lifted the prestigious prize in 2008, 2013 and 2014, has enjoyed arguably the most successful year of his illustrious career, winning the Champions League with Real Madrid before captaining his country to European Championship glory in France.

Messi, who boasts a record five Ballons d’Or, helped Barcelona win a domestic double last season but his dream of leading Argentina to a major international title was dashed by a penalty-shootout loss to Chile in the final of the Copa America.

As for Griezmann, the 24-year-old attacker fired both Atletico Madrid and France to the finals of the Champions League and Euro 2016, respectively, but he suffered the agony of defeat on both occasions.

Ronaldo, by contrast, tasted nothing but success over the summer by converting the winning spot-kick in Real’s 11th European Cup triumph, in May, and then cheer-leading the Seleccao to victory over France in Paris just over six weeks later.

With the 31-year-old having already finished top of the Goal 50 and now claimed another Ballon d’Or, he is set to complete a hat-trick of individual honours for 2016 when FIFA announces the winner of its Best Player award in January.

The Gunners have been paired with the German giants in the first knockout stage, while Pep Guardiola’s side will take on a high-flying Ligue 1 outfit

Arsenal will once again meet Bayern Munich in the Champions League last 16, while Manchester City will face high-flying Ligue 1 outfit Monaco.

The Gunners found themselves in the same group as the German giants last term, winning 2-0 at the Emirates but going down 5-1 away from home. They also met at this stage in 2012-13 and 2013-14, with Bayern progressing on both occasions.

City made it to the semi-finals of the competition in 2015-16, defeating French opposition along the way in the form of PSG, and will be looking to stake another serious claim for the famous trophy under Pep Guardiola.

Real Madrid will take on Serie A side Napoli, as they look to defend the crown they claimed under Zinedine Zidane last season.

Barcelona face a tough test against Paris Saint-Germain in the last 16 – who they faced in the group stage last term and the quarter-finals back in 2014-15 and 2012-13 – while Leicester City’s continental adventure will continue against Sevilla, with the reigning Premier League champions having impressed so far.

The other ties at the first knockout stage will see Benfica tackle Borussia Dortmund, Porto lock horns with Juventus and Bayer Leverkusen attempt to halt the charge of 2015-16 beaten finalists Atletico Madrid.

Osasuna 0 – 3 Barcelona [La Liga] Highlights 2016/17

Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi struck for Barcelona as they secured a vital 3-0 La Liga win at Osasuna on Saturday.

Luis Enrique’s men entered the tie at El Sadar needing a win to end a streak of three successive draws that left them six points behind Real Madrid.

After being frustrated in the first half, the visitors managed to break through after the break when Suarez opened the scoring with an easy finish.

Messi, making his 550th appearance for Barcelona, then added the second and third goals to ensure the Spanish champions halved the deficit at the top of the table.

Barca had only lost one of their last 10 meetings with Osasuna in the top flight but their lack of ruthlessness in front of goal threatened to see them concede more ground in the title race, as Suarez and Messi both spurned good chances in a first half in which the visitors dominated.

Oriol Riera and Sergio Leon came close to breaking the deadlock for Joaquin Caparros’s side, who offered stern resistance despite having claimed only seven points all season, but Messi combined brilliantly with Jordi Alba to allow Suarez to score against the 22nd different team in LaLiga just before the hour mark.

Pochettino Says Mourinho Is Still ‘the Special One’

Pochettino Says Mourinho Is Still ‘the Special One’

MOURINHO

According to Mauricio Pochettino, Manchester United Manager will “always be the Special One,” he also added that the Manchester United manager will be remembered as one of football’s greats.

Pochettino will face Mourinho for the 11th time as a manager when Tottenham Hotspur travel to Old Trafford in the Premier League on Sunday’s. And he says Mourinho, who joined Real Madrid in May 2010 while he was in his first managerial job at Espanyol, was one of his early influences as a manager.

Mourinho has struggled since the start of last season, earning 36 points in 30 games with Chelsea and United but Pochettino said the Portuguese boss has lost none of his magic.

“He is the Special One and will always be the Special One,” Pochettino told a news conference. “For me, he was a reference when I started my career at Espanyol. He was always very kind to me and opened his door.

“I always assess my colleagues, and try to be objective — I really believe he is one of the best. Sometimes you struggle a bit — it’s not easy to arrive at new club, set up ideas and philosophy but, for me, he was, is, will be one of best managers in football history.”

United have won one of their last six league matches, drawing four, leaving Mourinho frustrated by his side’s inability to kill off games.

He was charged for improper conduct by the Football Association (FA) after he was sent to the stands for kicking a water bottle along the touchline in the 1-1 draw with West Ham — the latest in a series of misdemeanours since he joined United in the summer.
Pochettino, whose side endured a frustrating run of just one win in 10 matches until last weekend’s thrashing of Swansea, sympathises with Mourinho and says he is being treated unfairly.

“For us, it was the same one month ago — we dominated the games, better stats than our opponents and in the end we draw or lost. It happens. I can understand him,” Pochettino added.

“I cannot say [anything] against him, I always respect other managers’ opinions. It’s important to accept that. I like Mourinho, I have a good relationship with him but I try to be objective too and his behaviour is no different from another.

“But because he is the Special One, sometimes people, referees, the media focus on him. But compare with another manager, who behaves worse than him, and they are not in the focus because they are not the Special One like him.”

A defeat would leave Manchester United nine points behind Tottenham, and surely out of the title race, but Pochettino insists it is too early to write-off the 13-time Premier League champions.

“The gap looks bigger but there are a lot of games ahead to finish the league. The Premier League is very tough, maybe now you are in a good or bad period but you always have the chance to recover the gap. When you have good players, good squad, you are in a good club, it’s always possible in football.”

REVEALED!! World’s Highest Paid player and is not Messi, Rolando or Ibrahimovic – See How Much He Earns

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have been toppled as the world’s highest paid players in the world.

According to documents leaked by whistleblowers ‘Football Leaks’, the best-paid player in the world reportedly earns more than £100,000-a-week more than Cristiano Ronaldo and nearly twice that of the multiple Ballon d’Or winner

It is reported that Lavezzi is paid nearly twice as much per week as the five-time Ballon d’Or winner.

Early this year, Lavezzi joined Chinese club Hebei China Fortune from Paris Saint-Germain in a deal reported to be worth £400,000 a week however leaked contract details reveals that he is paid a weekly salary of £493,000.

Messi’s rival, Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo, signed a new five-year deal last month, at a reported £365,000 per week, while his team-mate Gareth Bale has also committed his future to the La Liga leaders and his weekly wage is said to be more than £350,000 after tax.

Luis Suarez will become the next Barcelona star to sign a new contract, according to president Josep Bartomeu.

The Football Association has confirmed that Manchester City trio Sergio Aguero, Fernandinho and Nicolas Otamendi are to serve four, three and one-match bans respectively.

Aguero is facing four games on the sidelines following his red card against Chelsea on Saturday.

Finally, Otamendi has been handed a one-game ban after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season.

'Mourinho Is No Longer The Special One'- Samuel Eto'o Says (Do You Agree?)

'Mourinho Is No Longer The Special One'- Samuel Eto'o Says (Do You Agree?)

Former Cameroon skipper, Samuel Eto'o is of the opinion that his former boss at Inter Milan and Chelsea, and now Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho, has lost his magic touch, and believes his former boss at Barcelona, Pep Guardiola is now the best manager in the world.

Eto'o also attacked Eden Hazard when he appeared on French TV show, Telefoot, on Sunday, insinuating the Chelsea star used to be lazy.

Mourinho signed Eto'o twice during the striker's glittering career at the top, bringing him to Inter Milan and Chelsea.

The Cameroonian helped the Portuguese tactician win a famous treble while in Italy, although his one season at Stamford Bridge was less successful.

Chelsea won the league the year after Eto'o left, but Mourinho suffered humiliation a year ago when he was sacked by the west London outfit for a second time.

'The Special One' is now trying to work his magic with Manchester United, but Eto'o insists Mourinho needs to abandon his once-successful defensive brand of football.

According to Eto'o,

"Jose has changed. I knew someone exceptional at Inter. At Chelsea, it was already difficult, but he has further evolved.

"Today, you have to want to play football, to play your men. We cannot continually defend. Football is not that.

"Listen, I have nothing against Jose. He is capable of taking someone and telling them 'you're the best', and he will make them have a very good match. But football evolves."

Eto'o added, "[Manchester City boss] Pep Guardiola has everything to succeed in the Premier League. He is the best coach in the world."
