Chelsea 1 – 0 Manchester United [FA Cup] Highlights 2016/17

Chelsea may boast the ultimate poacher in Diego Costa, but they are also the Premier League’s most lethal side from distance.

The Blues have been a dominant attacking force this season, be that by playing their way through opponents or crushing them on the counter.

Antonio Conte’s side are a team of many talents, and one capable of hurting foes in any number of ways.

Against Manchester United in the FA Cup quarter-finals, Chelsea were back to doing damage outside of the box.

N’Golo Kante broke the deadlock in that contest with a fine 20-yard strike, with the Frenchman’s effort extending a 2016-17 record for the Stamford Bridge side.

Real Madrid 2 – 1 Real Betis [La Liga] Highlights 2016/17

Zinedine Zidane had Sergio Ramos to thank as the captain’s 10th goal of the season saw off Real Betis to take Real Madrid top of LaLiga.

Sergio Ramos scored a dramatic late winner as Real Madrid returned to the top of LaLiga with a 2-1 home victory over 10-man Real Betis.

Madrid took advantage of Barcelona’s shock loss to Deportivo La Coruna earlier on Sunday by coming from behind to win after it had looked like a dreadful Keylor Navas blunder would cost them dear.

The Santiago Bernabeu was stunned when Navas scored a bizarre own goal as he failed to deal with Antonio Sanabria’s shot midway through the first half.

Cristiano Ronaldo headed in his fifth goal in four league matches before the break, but it looked for a long time like Madrid would have to settle for a draw that would have kept them behind Barca.

That was until Betis’ Cristiano Piccini saw red and Ramos headed in his 10th goal of the season with nine minutes remaining to save Zinedine Zidane’s men.

Madrid are now two points clear of Barca with a game in hand, having overcome a sticky spell to win their last two league games.

Ronaldo was heavily involved in the early action, having a penalty claim turned down after clashing with German Pezzella before having a left-footed effort unconvincingly saved by ex-Madrid keeper Antonio Adan.

James Rodriguez, in as one of Zidane’s four changes, also tested Adan while Isco’s searing drive just missed the target from 25 yards.

But, after the hosts’ bright start, Navas featured in two major moments in quick succession midway through the first half.

Initially he was hugely fortunate to avoid punishment from referee Antonio Mateu Lahoz after racing out of his penalty area and taking down Darko Brasanac, the Betis midfielder furious when not even a free-kick was given after his path to goal was crudely blocked.

Then on 25 minutes, a Riza Durmisi cross from left set up Sanabria, whose low shot from 15 yards appeared to have been saved by Navas before he allowed the ball to squirm out of his grasp and knocked it over the line.

Deportivo La Coruna 2 – 1 Barcelona [La Liga] Highlights 2016/17

Barcelona were a shadow of the team who stunned Paris Saint-Germain as they fell to a costly LaLiga loss at Deportivo.

Barcelona were brought back down to earth with a thud as they lost 2-1 away to Deportivo La Coruna in LaLiga.
Four days after recording the biggest comeback in Champions league history with a 6-1 thrashing of Paris Saint-Germain, Barca were extremely poor as they fell to a costly defeat in the title race.

Joselu punished a first-half mistake from goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen to put hosts Depor ahead after his only other two league goals this season had come against Real Madrid.

Luis Suarez, who scored four when Barca won 8-0 at the Riazor last season, appeared to have got the visitors back on track after the break, but Depor captain Alex Bergantinos’ header with 16 minutes remaining proved decisive.

Barca had won six league matches in a row coming into the fixture, but could now lose top spot in LaLiga on Sunday, with Real Madrid still just one point behind ahead of their home match against Real Betis.

Impressive Depor are now four matches unbeaten under new boss Pepe Mel, this victory opening up an eight-point gap on the relegation zone.

A quiet start to the match saw Joselu fire an effort straight at Ter Stegen in the only early opportunity of note.

Barcelona, who made five changes from the PSG triumph, did not threaten until Luis Suarez poorly sent a free header into the arms of German Lux after latching on to Lionel Messi’s free-kick just before the half-hour mark.

Depor went close when a superb half-volley from Joselu was impressively kept out by Ter Stegen at full stretch, Fernando Navarro creating the chance.

But the hosts went one better from the resulting corner, Ter Stegen failed to gather Javier Mascerhano’s attempted clearance, allowing Joselu to thump in from close range.

Liverpool 2 – 1 Burnley [Premier League] Highlights 2016/17

Liverpool fought back from a goal down to beat Burnley and gain ground on the Premier League’s top three as Emre Can netted the winner.

Emre Can struck the winner as Liverpool beat Burnley 2-1 at Anfield to close the gap to third-placed Manchester City in the Premier League table ahead of their meeting next weekend.

With the rest of the top six in FA Cup action, Jurgen Klopp’s side came from behind to beat Burnley and consolidate fourth place, while closing to within a point of City and Tottenham.

Liverpool did not have it all their own way in the first half, though, with Ashley Barnes opening the scoring for the visitors as they eyed a maiden away win this term and a first seasonal double over the Reds since 1930.

But Georginio Wijnaldum equalised in first-half stoppage time and Can’s long-range stunner completed the turnaround just past the hour, clinching the points with Burnley’s attempts at a leveller of their own coming up short.

Klopp’s men took until the sixth game of the calendar year to taste a league victory in 2017, but they have now won three of their last four with a trip to City’s Etihad Stadium to come next Sunday.

It had looked as though the Reds’ woes against middling opposition had returned when Burnley deservedly led after seven minutes.

Arsenal 5 – 0 Lincoln [FA Cup] Highlights 2016/17

Arsenal’s 5-0 victory over Lincoln City on Saturday marked the club’s 200th triumph in the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners made a slow start in the FA Cup quarter-final clash, but found their stride in the second half to record a dominant win over non-league opposition.

Theo Walcott, Olivier Giroud, Alexis Sanchez and Aaron Ramsey were all on target, while Lincoln’s woes were compounded by an own goal from Luke Waterfall.

And in overcoming their rivals, Arsene Wenger’s men brought up the double century at their home ground.

Arsenal moved to the Emirates in 2006, after spending almost 100 years at the iconic Highbury.

Middlesbrough 0 – 2 Manchester City [FA Cup] Highlights 2016/17

Manchester City recorded a 2-0 win over Middlesbrough at Riverside Stadium to book their ticket for the semi-finals of the FA Cup.

Goals from David Silva and Sergio Aguero either side of half-time helped Manchester City to the semi-finals of the FA Cup for the first time since 2012-13 at the expense of Middlesbrough.

Silva opened the scoring from close range after just three minutes, before Aguero completed the 2-0 win at Riverside Stadium after the break with a fine finish.

City boss Pep Guardiola had acknowledged ahead of Saturday’s encounter that a lack of silverware in 2016-17 would mean his first season at the club will be considered a failure and he thus fielded a strong XI regardless of the upcoming Champions League trip to Monaco.

And the former Bayern boss’ decision paid off as City were well in control throughout the game, eventually cruising to a comfortable win to prevent a repeat of the FA Cup exit versus Boro in 2014-15.

There was a further boost for Guardiola as his side kept a third successive clean sheet, perfect preparation for when they travel to Monaco defending a 5-3 lead with the plan of stopping Leonardo Jardim’s potent strikeforce.

For Boro there were moments of positivity but – as has been the case all season – they lacked quality in the final third and will now turn their attention to Premier League survival.

Borussia Dortmund 4-0 Benfica (agg. 4-1) (UEFA Champions League) Highlight 2016/2017

Pierre-Emerick  Aubameyang delivered a hat-trick while Christian Pulisic added a goal and an assist as Borussia Dortmund defeated Benfica 4-0 in the second leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie, 4-1 on aggregate.

Aubameyang didn’t wait long to get the hosts level on aggregate. Ousmane Dembele delivered a corner in the fourth minute that Pulisic flicked on to the far post, where Aubameyang headed it home.

The game remained 1-0 Dortmund through the rest of the first half, Benfica coming close to regaining the edge in the tie multiple times.

It was Pulisic who got Dortmund’s crucial second as he took a Łukasz Piszczek throughball to deliver a magnificent chip finish in the 59th minute.

Aubameyang then gave his side a commanding edge just two minutes later, as he got on the end of a excellent cross from Marcel Schmelzer to make it 3-0 Dortmund in the game and 3-1 on aggregate in the tie.

The striker put the tie to bed in the 86th minute as he scored a tap in for the hat-trick, sending them through to the quarter-finals.

Manchester City 0-0 Stoke City (Premier League) Highlights 2016/2017

Leroy Sane missed a great chance to score the winner as Manchester City were held to a 0-0 draw against Stoke City on Wednesday.

The Germany international, who came into the match at the Etihad Stadium having netted in three consecutive appearances, was once again a livewire down the wing.

However, he was left holding his head when he skied his shot after Kevin De Bruyne’s cross escaped Joe Allen’s reach and found him on the hour mark.

Sane’s chance proved to be one of City’s best chances of the night, with the youngster unable to make contact with a great delivery for what would have been a guilt-edge chance in stoppage time.

David Silva – introduced for the ineffective Jesus Navas – had already spurned a glorious chance 18 minutes from the end, though he did make a big difference to City’s attacking play.

Check Out Chelsea’s new Nike kit? Designs of 2017/2018 home, Away And Third Strips Are ‘Leaked’(Photo)”Adidas Out Of Contract

The Blues are likely to wear the strip as champions after moving 10 points clear at the top of the Premier League

Chelsea will begin their £60million-a-year Nike kit deal this summer – and these are the impressive first designs potentially in store for the Blues.

The record breaking £900m contract replaces Chelsea existing partnership with adidas .

It is the most lucrative commercial deal in history at Stamford Bridge and the American sportswear giant is set to enter with Antonio Conte’s men as champions.

The Italian’s side are the runaway Premier League leaders, bossing the title race by 10 points clear with just 11 games to play.

And if these designs, mocked-up by Blues fanzine site Breathe Chelsea are true, Conte’s men will certainly look like champions.

The purported home strip is dominated by Blue, with a darker shade of navy running down the sleeves.

The apparent away number is a white themed kit with silver sleeves and shorts completing the stylish look.

And a camouflaged black away design stands out with an electric sky blue trim on the rounded collar and socks.

The new kits are understood to be on sale from the beginning of June when the club’s Nike partnership officially kicks in.

Until then, the speculated designs above have not (and are unlikely to) been confirmed.

Kit makers Nike do not comment on speculated designs.

Arsenal 1 – 5 Bayern Munich [Champions League] Highlights 2015/16

Theo Walcott opened the scoring at the Emirates, but Laurent Koscielny saw red before the floodgates opened on another tough night for Arsene Wenger

Bayern Munich inflicted another 5-1 defeat on Arsenal in the second leg of their Champions League last 16 tie to send the Gunners crashing out of Europe 10-2 on aggregate.

Things had started brightly for Arsene Wenger’s side, after a pre-game protest against his tenure, with Theo Walcott opening the scoring inside 20 minutes.

The tide turned, though, after Laurent Koscielny saw red for bringing down Robert Lewandowski inside the box early in the second half.

The Polish striker dusted himself down to convert from the spot and the floodgates opened.

Former Chelsea winger Arjen Robben returned to haunt Arsenal once more, before Douglas Costa and an brace from Arturo Vidal compounded the misery for Wenger and his beleaguered troops.

Breaking!!! Arsenal Fans Stage Arsene Wenger Protest… ‘Stubborn, Stale, Clueless’

Disgruntled supporters took the streets around Emirates Stadium to call on the club to avoid offering the Frenchman an extension to his contract

Arsenal supporters have staged a protest ahead of a Champions League clash with Bayern Munich calling for the end to Arsene Wenger’s tenure at the club.

The Frenchman inherited the Gunners reins in 1996 and is the most successful manager in the club’s history.

He has overseen Premier League title triumphs and domestic cup successes, but a disgruntled fan base have grown disillusioned with events in recent years.

Calls of “we want our Arsenal back” could be heard on Tuesday evening as those eager to see change embraced in north London took to the streets.

Wenger was also accused of “killing our club”, while signs and banners sported slogans such as “no new contract” and “stubborn, stale, clueless” were paraded.

Arsenal head into the last 16 encounter 5-1 down from the first leg in Germany, with another frustrating exit from Europe now on the cards.

The Gunners have also slipped to fifth in the Premier League table, adding further weight to those urging the board not to hand Wenger an extension to a contract due to expire in the summer.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic

The Swede aimed an elbow at Tyrone Mings during Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with Bournemouth and has subsequently been hit with a suspension

The Football Association has confirmed that Manchester United’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic has accepted a three-match ban for his elbow on Tyrone Mings.

The prolific attacker will consequently miss the FA Cup quarter-final at Chelsea on Monday, followed by the Premier League matches against Middlesbrough and West Brom.

He is due to return in the home game with Everton on April 4 but remains eligible for United’s Europa League clashes with Rostov.

The news will come as a major blow to manager Jose Mourinho, with Ibrahimovic having scored 26 goals in all competitions thus far this season.

Mings, meanwhile, has also been charged with violent conduct, following an alleged stamp on Ibrahimovic, but he is yet to be told how long he will be banned for.

United are currently sixth in the Premier League table, three points behind fourth-placed Manchester City.

Arsenal vs Bayern Munich… Line-Ups, Team News, Squad Revealed, Injuries And More Ahead Of Champions League Clash

Arsene Wenger Shaking Alexis Sanchez

Arsene Wenger will make a late decision on Alexis Sanchez after he was dropped for Saturday’s 3-1 defeat at Liverpool

Arsene Wenger insists he has not decided whether to recall Alexis Sanchez for Arsenal’s Champions League round-of-16 second-leg meeting with Bayern Munich.

The Chile forward was dropped for Saturday’s 3-1 defeat at Liverpool with Wenger insisting it was a tactical decision and the player had not been involved in a training ground argument leading into the game.

Arsenal are 5-1 down in the tie and are definitely without Mesut Ozil through illness, while Santi Cazorla (Achilles) and Mohamed Elneny (ankle) also miss out.

West Ham United 1 – 2 Chelsea [Premier League] Highlights 2016/17

Antonio Conte’s side put in a professional performance in a capital derby at the London Stadium to cement their standing at the Premier League summit

Eden Hazard and Diego Costa helped Chelsea to restore their 10-point lead at the top of the Premier League with a 2-1 victory over West Ham.

A capital derby at the London Stadium produced a bright opening, with the hosts posing plenty of  problems for the table-topping Blues.

It was, however, to be the kind of flowing counter that has become Chelsea’s trademark this season which allowed them to open the scoring.

Hazard exchanged passes with Pedro to spring in behind and the Belgian made no mistake as he calmly rounded Darren Randolph and rolled into the back of the net.

Costa then doubled that advantage five minutes into the second half as he bundled home his 17th league goal of the season from a corner.

Manuel Lanzini pulled one back in stoppage-time to set up a nervy finish for the visitors, but they were able to leave with all three points.

Barcelona 5 – 0 Celta [La Liga] Highlights 2016/17

The Argentine contributed two goals and two assists as the Catalans ran riot ahead of their make or break Champions League tie against PSG.

Lionel Messi was at his sublime best as he scored two and inspired three more goals in Barcelona’s 5-0 hammering of Celta Vigo, their first match since head coach Luis Enrique announced his plans to leave at the end of the season.

Luis Enrique confirmed his imminent departure after Wednesday’s 6-1 dismantling of Sporting Gijon and that certainly did not appear to distract his men in any way as talisman Messi led from the front in a sensational display to see Barca retain their place at LaLiga’s summit, a point ahead of Real Madrid who have a game in hand.

Barca played the first half with real freedom and carved Celta open several times before eventually breaking the deadlock through Messi, who applied a typically clinical finish after a fine run.

The Argentina international ran the show and caused havoc in his free role, setting Neymar up for Barca’s delightful second five minutes before the interval.

Messi then unlocked the Celta defence in the lead up to Ivan Rakitic’s controversial third, before then laying the ball on a plate for Samuel Umtiti’s first Barca goal.

The inspirational forward then doubled his personal tally with what was Barca’s third goal in seven minutes, securing another emphatic victory ahead their attempt at a Champions League last-16 rescue job when they host Paris Saint-Germain at Camp Nou with the Ligue 1 champions leading 4-0 from the first leg.

See The Reason Why Ibrahimovic Missed Penalty Against Bournemouth

See The Reason Why Ibrahimovic Missed Penalty Against Bournemouth

Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho, has claimed that his players have stopped practising penalties, which is possibly the reason why Zlatan Ibrahimovic failed to score from 12 yards against Bournemouth.

Marcos Rojo’s opener had been cancelled by Josh King’s penalty, when United were awarded a spot-kick, after referee Kevin Friend spotted handball in the box.

Ibrahimovic’s effort was pushed away by Artur Boruc, with Anthony Martial blasting the rebound over the bar.

Speaking after the game, Mourinho told BBC: “For four months we have not had a penalty, so we didn’t train penalties. Day we have penalties the guys are not ready.”

On why they were unable to win the game, he said:
“It’s more of the same. I can’t explain. The quality of our game, the dimension of our chances is a 1st half to finish 3 or 4-0.
“Once more I don’t have to ask you who was the man of the match because I already can imagine.
“We are not dead for top four. The reality is we are losing too many points at home.”

Manchester United 1 – 1 AFC Bournemouth [Premier League] Highlights 2016/17

Manchester United were held to a 1-1 draw by 10-man Bournemouth in a controversial clash that saw Zlatan Ibrahimovic miss a penalty and land himself in hot water after elbowing Tyrone Mings.

An incredibly open start to the game saw the hosts go ahead on 23 minutes when Marco Rojo scored his first Premier League goal for the club, diverting Antonio Valencia’s cross-shot past Artur Boruc.

Bournemouth levelled it up just five minutes before the break, however, Eddie Howe’s side equalising from the penalty spot through Joshua King after Phil Jones had brought down Marc Pugh.

The game was heading into the interval when huge controversy broke out, Mings stamping on Ibrahimovic who retaliated minutes later by elbowing the defender. Both incidents were seemingly missed by referee Kevin Friend who took no action against either player, although he did speak at length to Ibrahimovic and captain Wayne Rooney.
