Mystery is surrounding the case of an Indian kid, nicknamed “Mowgli girl,” who was found living with a troop of monkey in the Katarniaghat forest, near Uttar Pradesh in northern India, and is said to behave like a primate.

The girl, believed to be between eight and 12 years old, was hospitalized two months ago, and the news about her story only emerged this week. She was discovered by woodcutters, emaciated and with wounds covering her body. She was in the company of monkeys and reportedly walked, ate and communicated like one.
Some said she had been raised by the primates, however, some local media outlets reported that the girl had been abandoned by her parents for allegedly having “mental issues.” The identity of the girl remains unknown, as police go through archive of missing children in an attempt to piece the puzzle together. Meanwhile, the girl is now able to understand few words and even smile, according to one of the doctors following her case.
