Berlin Zoo on Thursday celebrated the 60th birthday of Fatou, believed to be the oldest gorilla living in captivity.

There is no birthday cake with candles for Fatou, but instead a basket of pineapples and bananas.
In 1959, a soldier brought Fatou back to Marseille, France from West Africa, and after many twists and turns Fatou finally settled down in Berlin Zoo.
For now, Fatou has a large extended family below her. Her grandchild still lives in Berlin today, and she even has two great-grandchildren who live in the Netherlands.
