Chinese architecture fans toast 'beer keg' tower blocks in Suzhou

lawson james blog entertainment news

Five office buildings in the eastern Chinese city of Suzhou have been given the nickname “Pijiutong,” meaning beer kegs. About 80 meters tall, the towers have been built in a cylindrical shape which makes them look very similar to those beer kegs in bars. But according to the official introduction, the design concept originated from “spring bamboo shoots breaking through the ground.”

GOBE!: Nude Photos of Rwanda's Female Presidential Candidate Leaked, Reportedly (18+)

Shima Rwigara

Nude photos of Diane Shima Rwigara, could be breaking the internet, but possibly, not her spirit.

The Rwandan presidential candidate on Friday morning was shocked to learn about her private naked photographs were making rounds around the world.

The move to humiliate the woman, who has recently boldly come out to attack President Paul Kagame’s bad governance, is likely to attract criticism from women rights activists.

The 35-year-old tough talking woman is a daughter of the late Assinapol Rwigara. He died in a motor accident in 2015...Continue after the cut

It is hardly a week since she announced her presidential ambitions and a photo bomb has fallen on her.

In the conservative Rwandan society, Ms Rwigara is likely to get shunned by moralists, while the youth might warm up to her candidature but for only excitement.

However, analysts ask, “who will take seriously a woman who finds idle time to take nude photos?”

Nudes are not new in Rwanda, but no high profile woman has been rudely exposed to this extent. This has been a territory for musicians, socialites and corporate prostitutes.

How Rwigara will respond to this photo bomb will tell a lot about the substance she is made of. For now, an innocent act such as this is a little set back to the fire she had infused into her campaign.....(Watchdog UG)

Here are photos being alleged to be hers.

Ambode tasks academic community on quality research to drive growth

lawson james blog news

Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode on Tuesday called on the academic community to come up with quality research work that would create a platform for good governance and set the country on the path of economic growth and development.

Governor Ambode, who spoke at Lagos House in Ikeja when he received management team of University of Lagos (UNILAG) on courtesy visit led by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Rahmon Bello, said the time had come for practical collaboration between the government and the academic community for the overall benefit of the country.

“The time has actually come for practical collaboration between government and the academia. I think we have missed out all the great opportunities that we have seen in most of the Ivy League schools that we have all gone to, to see the huge advantage that comes in the collaboration between the academic community and government and that is where I want us to actually focus on.

“We need to now see how the academic community can help in our vision for growth and development. There are so many things that should actually come from the academic community that allows government to create a platform for good governance and reduce the cost of governance and this will only come from the research work that comes out from the university,” Governor Ambode said.

The Governor, who is a product of UNILAG, described the visit by the management of the institution as historic, and harped on the need to build on it to ensure purposeful synergy for growth and development.

The Governor, while expressing excitement at a new office created by UNILAG on Innovation and Enterprise, also called for concerted efforts from key players to grow the informal sector, saying that the sector remained critical to the growth of the economy.

“The economy in Nigeria actually needs new entrepreneurs. We need them because they are the bulk of the system itself and then when you count the formal sector, it is just 10 per cent of the economy in Lagos. The bulk of the economy of Lagos is in the informal sector and we need to do a lot of research and collaboration to be able to bring the entrepreneurship in the informal sector into the framework of growing GDP of Lagos.

“We are excited about the fact that we are the fifth largest economy in Africa with $136billion GDP but the truth is our vision is to make Lagos the third largest economy in Africa in the next five years and we believe we can do it and the way to do it is for us to spend our way into that particular bracket,” Governor Ambode said.

Earlier, Professor Bello said the visit was to associate with Governor Ambode who is the first alumnus of UNILAG to govern the State, as well as to scale up partnership with the State Government for development.

He particularly congratulated the Governor for his sterling performance in office in the last two years in all the sectors and sections of the State, saying that the projects had positively impacted the people.

The VC specifically noted the numerous roads and flyover projects, traffic decongestion activities through lay-bys and bus stops, housing development, education and tourism projects, as well as huge investment on security apparatus, saying tax payers’ money spent on security was now making the people to sleep with their two eyes closed.

He, however, called for involvement of UNILAG on the move by the Governor to create technology hub in Yaba, and other parts of the State.

Facebook Inc to add 3,000 people to monitor reports of inappropriate material on the social media network

lawson james blog entertainment news

Facebook Inc will add 3,000 people over the next year to monitor reports of inappropriate material on the social media network and remove videos such as murders and suicides, Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg said on Wednesday.

Zuckerberg, the company's co-founder, said in a Facebook post the workers will be in addition to the 4,500 people who already review posts that may violate its terms of service.

The hiring spree represents an acknowledgement by Facebook that, at least for now, it needs more than automated software to improve the monitoring of broadcasts on Facebook Live, a service that has been marred since its launch last year by instances of people streaming violent content.

Last week, a father in Thailand broadcast himself killing his daughter on Facebook Live, police said. After more than a day, and 370,000 views, Facebook removed the video. Other videos have also shocked viewers with their violence.

Zuckerberg said "we're working to make these videos easier to report so we can take the right action sooner – whether that's responding quickly when someone needs help or taking a post down."

Facebook is due to report quarterly revenue and earnings later on Wednesday after markets close in New York.

Britain's Prince Philip to stand down from royal duties

Britain's Prince Philip, the 95-year-old husband of Queen Elizabeth II, will stand down from his royal duties, according to a statement posted by Buckingham Palace on Thursday.

The Duke of Edinburgh will no longer carry out public engagements from this autumn, but will continue to be associated with over 780 organizations of which he is patron, president or a member, according to the statement.

Philip is the oldest male member of the British royal family in history. He also holds the record as the longest-serving consort to a reigning British monarch.

Besides accompanying the Queen in her official duties and appearances throughout the world, Philip has also participated in the work of many organizations, particularly favoring those focused on the environment, athletics and education.

British Prime Minister Theresa May issued a statement following today's announcement, offering "our deepest gratitude and good wishes to His Royal Highness-- the Duke of Edinburgh."

Earlier in the morning, an emergency meeting had been reportedly called by Buckingham Palace, which sparked speculation on social media about the health of the Queen and Prince Philip. But a royal spokesman refuted the rumor and said "there is no cause for alarm" and the couple are "fine".

Buckingham Palace also confirmed that Queen Elizabeth will continue to carry out her full program of engagements.
