The Lagos State Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has said it is collaborating with research institutes to develop solid minerals available in Lagos State.

The Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Mr Olawale Oluwo disclosed this during the visit of Members of Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Energy and Mineral Resources led by its Chairman Hon. Folajimi Muhammed.
The Commissioner, while briefing the committee members on the activities of his Ministry for the first quarter of the year 2017, said geological research carried out by the Ministry revealed the existence of some solid minerals in the State which will require further studies.
He said the State is already in touch with relevant stakeholders like some research institutes to further develop these minerals and make them attractive to investors.
‘‘We have discovered the occurrence of some minerals in the State like clay, kaolin, limestone and silica sand, we are discussing with some research institutes like the Federal Institute of Industrial Research, Raw Material Research Institute and Epina Technology amongst others to further develop and make the discovered minerals viable and attractive to investors''.
Mr. Oluwo disclosed that “Our flagship project, the embedded power project, which is being done in collaboration with major stakeholders in the power sector will soon commence and will guarantee a 24hour, 7day power supply to businesses and homes where they are deployed”.
He said further that the State is leveraging on the Federal Government power reform where investors through the embedded power project can generate power for the distribution companies to distribute to end users.
The Commissioner said the State is already harmonizing a bill that will guarantee and make attractive the deployment of embedded power projects to solve the energy challenges of Lagosians.
Clarifying issues on the discovery of crude oil in some parts of the State and how prepared the State was towards solving youth restiveness, the Commissioner said “We are not unaware of pockets of agitations that may arise from that axis, we are putting together a committee that will address future restiveness and youth employment. The Governor will soon inaugurate the committee whose members are mainly from the axis.”
He urged the visiting Committee members to assist the Ministry and the State in ensuring easy and rapid passage of bills that the Ministry will soon be bringing to the State House of Assembly.
In his response, the Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Folajimi Muhammed said the visit which is to be done quarterly is part of the oversight functions of the committee to ensure that the programs and plans of the Ministry are in line with the year 2017 budgetary provision as passed by the State House of Assembly.
