Roger Ailes, former chairman and co-founder of Fox News, died Thursday morning at age 77, his wife Elizabeth Ailes announced in a statement to Drudge Report, a US news aggregate, calling him a "patriot." No cause of death was given.
Ailes founded Fox News in 1996 but resigned as CEO of Fox News Channel last year amid sexual harassment allegations. Throughout his years at Fox News, he helped form the modern landscape for cable news in the US by bringing entertainment and opinion into the picture.
Before that, Ailes served as president of CNBC. He was also a media consultant for US Republican presidents Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan, and George H. W. Bush.
