In her words, “Considering where we were before and where we are now as shown by the statistics, it is evident that we are making progress. With this, we are confident that if we continue the relentless implementation of our plans in this regard, the menace of street beggers and destitute will be completely eradicated from our State.”

Adebayo worked for Nigeria’s unity, progress of Yoruba nation – Ambode

Adebayo worked for Nigeria’s unity, progress of Yoruba nation – Ambode

Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode on Thursday showered encomium on the late former Military Governor of the defunct Western Region, General Adeyinka Adebayo, describing him as an elder statesman who worked tirelessly for the progress of the Yoruba nation and unity of the country.

The late Adebayo, who died on March 8, 2017 in Lagos at 89 years, served as Governor of the region between 1966 and 1971. The defunct Western Region today has been broken into six South West States of Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo, Osun and Ekiti.

Speaking at a Commendation Service in honour of late Adebayo held at Archbishop Vinning Memorial Church Cathedral in Ikeja, Governor Ambode said the deceased was like a father to him whom he had a lot of respect for owing to the virtues and legacies he left behind during his sojourn on earth.

“This is more or less like a family dad to me also because I feel that pain also in all the things that we had actually envisioned through Baba which more or less are the kind of baton we in this generation should take.

“For somebody to have died at the age Baba Adebayo died, there is so much he has taken away which we the younger Governors would not be able to assimilate enough but the major thing is that apart from being a fine gentle man, elderly man and perfect person, the bottom line was that Baba Adebayo had the love of the Yoruba race in his heart,” Governor Ambode said.

While urging Nigerians to unite to place the country on a sound footing for economic growth and prosperity, the Governor said the late Adebayo, in his lifetime, pursued the good course of unifying the country.

According to Governor Ambode, “He (late Adebayo) was an elder statesman who was also in love with the unity of Nigeria. He had a mission that is yet to be fulfilled by all of us and I think the time of his death has brought to the fore that main mission that we want to use to unite this country and that is why I believe strongly that wherever we are, wherever we find ourselves, Baba Adebayo has made his own difference, the remaining left for all of us is that whether we are in leadership position or any place we find ourselves, we should carry out that mission that he had always exemplified that we must come up strongly in unity and at the same time make Nigeria a very strong nation.”

The Governor commiserated with the widow and the entire family of the late Adebayo, saying that it was gratifying to note that Adebayo’s works had resulted in the blessings of God upon the family.

Earlier in his sermon, Bishop Diocese of Lagos West, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Rt. Revd. James Olusola Odedeji said in the history of Nigeria, the late Adebayo would be remembered for hard work, integrity, family virtues, generosity and selflessness in the discharge of duties, among other virtues.
Odedeji, who picked his text from the book of I Corinthians 15: 58, admonished Nigerians to engage in fruit bearing lifestyle and eschew selfish disposition to affairs and people.

“As Christians and Nigerians, we must make a difference in this corrupt and perverse generation by touching lives and leaving good legacy that is everlasting. Politicians especially should live a life to touch others positively,” Odedeji said.

Trump willing to use engagement on DPRK crisis: S. Korea envoy

Trump willing to use engagement on DPRK crisis: S. Korea envoy

US President Donald Trump told South Korea's presidential envoy that Washington wss willing to resolve the DPRK's nuclear crisis through engagement under the right conditions, South Korea's Yonhap News Agency reported on Thursday.

Trump has said "a major, major conflict" with the DPRK was possible and all options were on the table but wanted to resolve the crisis diplomatically and peacefully, possibly through the use of economic sanctions.

South Korea's new President Moon Jae-in who took office last week has campaigned on a more moderate approach towards the DPRK but has said Pyongyang must change its attitude of insisting on arms development before dialogue was possible.

Moon's envoy to Washington, South Korean media mogul Hong Seok-hyun, said Trump spoke of the willing to use "engagement" to create peace on the Korean Peninsula, Yonhap news quoted Hong as saying.

But the United States will not have any dialogue with the DPRK for the sake of dialogue and the use of pressure was the premise in the approach to Pyongyang, Hong quoted Trump as saying, according to Yonhap.

Trump's comments could not immediately be independently verified.

The DPRK conducted its latest ballistic missile test on Sunday in defiance of UN Security Council resolutions, saying it was a test of its capability to carry a "large-size heavy nuclear warhead."
Pyongyang has vowed to develop a missile mounted with a nuclear warhead that can strike the mainland United States. However, a senior DPRK diplomat has said Pyongyang was open to having talks with Washington under the right conditions.

Trailblazer: Afghan woman on round-the-world solo flight

lawson james blog entertainment newsBorn in a refugee camp, Shaesta Waiz was a timid child afraid of airplanes. Now she is the first certified civilian female pilot in the war-torn country of Afghanistan.

Waiz arrived in Montreal, Canada on the third leg of her worldwide solo flight on Monday. She will stop in 18 countries across five continents to complete the over 40,000-kilometer journey.
While most industries have made significant efforts to attract females in the last few decades, the aviation industry is still lagging behind.
Over 600,000 active pilots have licenses in the US, but only about six percent are women, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
The 29-year-old Waiz launched the solo flight in part to inspire a new generation of female pilots to consider careers in male-dominated technical fields like aviation.

Basic Foods contained in a balanced Diet: The basic 4 food groups

Basic Foods contained in a balanced Diet: The basic 4 food groups

What are the basic foods contained in a balanced diet? And what do nutritionists consider to be adequate daily requirements of these foods?

To provide a guide for easy diet planning, nutritionists have grouped foods into basic categories. The following four categories are known as the basic four food groups. Nutritionists have arranged them largely according to the nutrients they possess. By selecting items from each group and by including them in your daily diet, you can create meals that are balanced, nutritious, attractive, and tasty.

                                                          MEAT GROUP

When we eat meat, we are eating the flesh and body tissue of a variety of animals. Cows, pigs, lambs, and poultry provide us with the meats most common to our diets - beef, pork, lamb, chicken, amd turkey. Another common food in the meat group is Fish and other seafood, including shrimp, lobster, clams, and oysters. We also eat such game animals as duck, rabbit, deer, and pheasant. Other foods included in the meat group are eggs, vitamins, minerals, and fats. Nutritionists recommend one or two servings from this group every day.

                                                      BREADS and CEREALS

All the foods made from grains (wheat, oats, rye, rice, corn, ect.) are included in this group. These foods would include breads, breakfast cereals, rice dishes, and corn products. Marcaroni and spaghetti noodles are also made from grain. Grain foods are rich in carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals. Nutritionists recommend four servings from this group daily.
Even though nutritious food is important for health, it is not a good idea to eat only certain kinds of nutritious foods or to eat them in large amounts. Too much of even a good thing can cease to be beneficial if not taken in moderation. Remember that only a balanced diet can benefit health, and that a balanced diet involves a variety of foods.

                                                       MILK PRODUCTS

These foods include milk, cream, butter, margarine, cheese, cottage cheese, and ice cream. Dairy products are rich in protein and important vitamins and minerals. Children should have three to four cups of milk every day, and adults should have at least two cups of milk every day.

                                              FRUITS and VEGETABLES

This food group includes all fruits and vegetables. In addition to providing essential vitamins and minerals, fruits and vegetables also provide fiber and bulk-food material that, when digested, helps the body to eliminate waste normally. We eat parts of plants, such as seeds, leaves, nuts, stems, and stalks, for fiber and bulk. In addition, the outer skin, or peel, of fruits and vegetables provide fiber and bulk. Nutritionists recommend one or two servings from this group daily.

UN Security Council vows sanctions over DPRK's missile test

UN Security Council vows sanctions over DPRK's missile test

The UN Security Council on Monday strongly condemned DPRK's latest ballistic missile test and vowed to ratchet up the pressure on the regime, including sanctions, ahead of an emergency meeting to discuss the launch.

The DPRK on Sunday launched what appeared to be its longest-range ballistic missile yet, saying it was capable of carrying a "heavy nuclear warhead" in a test aimed at bringing the US mainland within reach.

In a statement, the 15-member council vowed strong measures in response to Pyongyang's "highly destabilizing behavior" and demanded a halt to "further nuclear and ballistic missiles tests."
Pyongyang has carried out two atomic tests and dozens of missile launches since the beginning of 2016, with the Security Council adopting two sanctions resolutions last year to ramp up pressure and deny leader Kim Jong Un the hard currency needed to fund his military programs.

The statement also said it was of vital importance that the DPRK show "sincere commitment to denuclearization through concrete action and stressed the importance of working to reduce tensions."
"To that end, the Security Council demanded the Democratic People's Republic of Korea conduct no further nuclear and ballistic missile tests," the council said, adding that it was ready to impose further sanctions on the country.

Learn what Good Leadership is all about from this illustration

lawson james blog entertainment news

Leadership Lesson: A group of wolves; 3 in front are old & sick, they walk in front to set the pace of the running group lest they get left behind; 5 behind are the strongest & best, they are tasked to protect the front side if there is an attack; the 'citizens' in the midst, protected from any attack; 5 behind are the strongest & best, they are tasked to protect the back side if there is an attack; The last one is the Leader; He ensures that no one is left behind and all keep stay one-on pack; He is always ready to run in any direction to protect & serve to the 'bodyguard' group.

This what is called GOOD LEADERSHIP. The whole pack stays alive and protects each other.
